What is Senior's Counseling?

Senior's counseling is a type of therapy or support services specifically designed to help older adults navigate the emotional, psychological, and social challenges that often come with aging.

At Spirit of Hope Counseling Center we have older, experienced therapists who have lived life, been through many changes and family challenges. We understand this stage of life and how wonderful it can be and how difficult it may be.

We address many concerns such as:

Mental health support:

For issues like depression, anxiety, loneliness, grief, or cognitive decline. As we age our emotions can get heightened especially with fear, fear of the unknown, fear of health issues, fear of death. Processing old and new life experiences can bring much emotional relief. Also, the support you receive from a therapist can bring light back into your life. It can rekindle hope!

Life transitions:

Coping with retirement, loss of independence, or changes in physical health. There is a lot of grief in these life changes, along with anxiety and depression. Some people are very fearful about their financial future at this stage of life. Getting help to walk through these transitions can be life changing and encouraging.

Relationship dynamics:

Dealing with changes in family roles or social circles. Many of us are losing friends and loved ones to death. As Christians we know they are in a better place, but it leaves us with sadness and loneliness. Perhaps our roles are changing as well. We end up giving hosting family events and hand off that responsibility to the younger generation. This can be a challenge to let go. Working in therapy we encourage you to talk about your loved one who has passed and help bring hope and happiness in their memories. We can address the grief of “Letting go” of some responsibilities and giving up some independence.

End-of-life concerns:

Addressing fears, legacy, or spiritual matters. Some of us are ready to “Go!” Life gets exhausting and the world problems are very annoying. But many people are fearful…fearful of how we’ll die, when we’ll go, and we may ask the question, “Are we prepared for heaven?” Rather than ignore this inevitable life transition, it’s very helpful to talk about it and relieve yourself of the emotions around it. Being a senior can be wonderful in the freedom of time constraints, responsibilities, raising kids, grand parenting and much more. We can’t ignore the challenges it brings as well, but help is here at Spirit of Hope.
